Spike lowered his drink and looked at his credstick. A zero flashed glumly back at him. He checked pockets. Empty.

Raising his Bloody Mary to his lips, Spike frowned as the drink sloshed to form an unsightly stain his pants. He turned and looked up at the bruiser who had jolted him: maybe a hundred and twenty kilos, a good head taller than Spike, with no discernible neck.

This guy was meat. His three buddies, however, were chromed to the hilt. They were busy laughing and groping the struggling waitress while the other patrons stared hard into their drinks. The waitress screamed and slapped one of the street samurai across the face. He growled and raised his fist, razor-sharp claws springing from the cybernetic gauntlet. Spike sighed and stood up. The nearest samurai took a quick nap after Spike shattered a barstool across his head. Good thing his head wasn't metal.

The laughter cut out. The bruiser who had jostled Spike turned and was surprised to find his teeth re-arranged by Spike's boot. Two more to go.

More claws. Spike ducked and weaved past the buzzing steel. Those claws would cut him to ribbons. Besides, his fists would break against chrome.

His kicks found their marks over and over. The samurai who first drew steel doubled over.

The last samurai drew his submachine gun. Immediately, Spike's Glock appeared in his right hand. The other patrons gasped and made for the exits.

The samurai laughed. "Looks like we got here an old Mexican standoff. Still, I bet the chop docs could do a better job of putting me back together than you..." A slightly confused expression crossed his face, and the samurai joined his other sleeping friends on the floor.

A squat, graying, but still powerfully built man dropped the remains of the barstool. "I'm getting too old for this shit," he grumbled. "The name's Mills."

Spike offered the chocolate face a bemused smile. Mills barked, "Well, what are you waiting for? We've got a job to do." Spike raised an eyebrow, but silently picked up his backpack and followed Mills out the door....
