Combat History

The Screaming Eagles are renowned throughout the galaxy, synonymous with daring, courageous, and innovative high-precision flying. In eight decades of service, they have established an arguably unmatched reputation for excellence.

Corvian 1st Fighter Squadron was born as the Zoroaster 1st Fighter Squadron during the Akashan War of Independence. During the trip out to the Akashan Star Cluster, Lieutenant General Douglas Feldman, the Commander of the Terran Expeditionary Force, confidently echoed the Commanding General's opinion to his command staff that crushing the rebellion would be a "Slam dunk". His swift victory and occupation of the key world of Zoroaster seemed to prove him correct.

However, the Akashan rebels proved to be much tougher than expected, launching a fierce and brutal insurgency, both on Zoroaster and throughout the Star Cluster. During the dark, early days of the War, with Akashan casualties skyrocketing, the Zoroaster 1st Fighter Squadron gave the rebellion hope. Striking from hidden bases in the Karolis Mountains, the Screaming Eagles won the rebels' first victories against the Terran occupation force.

Years later, following Corvia's secession from the Republic, Zoroaster 1st Fighter Squadron defected to the Federation along with the rest of the Second Tactical Squadron, led by the charismatic Commodore Dennis Alexander. Rechristened the Corvian 1st Fighter Squadron, the Eagles quickly formed the focal point of the aerospace campaign against the Circled Stars. They cemented their claim to being one of the best aerospace units in the galaxy by denying their former comrades-in-arms air superiority and savaging them dearly for every meter on the ground in every encounter they were involved with.

However, the Eagles are also not without their share of setbacks. For a time during the Second Unification War, they were tasked with containing Baron Manfred von Richthofen VI, the Federals' top ace. In this, they met with mixed success, but, in all fairness, they perhaps did as well as anyone could expect.
 

Notable Members

Vice Admiral Benjamin Oliver Davis VI

The Zoroaster 1st Fighter Squadron was founded by Benjamin Oliver Davis VI. Once a top flier in the Federal Aerospace Force, Lieutenant Davis was forced to resign his commission after offending a member of the Terran Command Council. Retiring to set up a farm on Zoroaster, he was initially reluctant to join the rebellion, though he changed his mind after his boy was killed by the thuggish son of the Terran governor.

Davis was the undisputed fighter ace of both the Akashan and Corvian Wars of Independence, with a combined 217 confirmed aerospace victories. After the Akashan War of Independence, he became chief flight instructor at the Fleet Advanced Fighter School at Zoroaster NAS, though many that he trained ended up as confirmed aerospace victories.

Unable to defeat him in battle, the Terrans and Akashans attempted to assassinate Davis a total of seven times, all unsuccessful. He was the first individual awarded the Order of the Golden Lion, making him one of the few individuals to be both named a Tiger of Akasha and a member of the Order.
