Combat History

As a leading element of the Republic of Akasha's rapid deployment forces, the 94th Airborne Infantry Division is trained to deploy anywhere, at any time, to fight upon arrival, and to win. The division, nicknamed the Wind Warriors, currently consists of two airborne infantry brigades (Kershaw's Brigade, the Ghost Brigade), and an aviation brigade (the Shotgun Brigade). Capable of inserting the entire division hundreds of kilometers into enemy terrain in one lift, the Wind Warriors provide the Republic with the ability to begin executing a strategic airborne forcible entry into any area of the galaxy within 18 hours of notification.

Formed during the Akashan War of Independence, the 94th Airborne, along with the 62nd Airborne, is one of the Republic's first two airborne infantry divisions. During much that conflict, the 94th Airborne was attached to the Second Corps, although it also paired with the 62nd Airborne for larger operations, and served with great distinction throughout.

Like many of her sister divisions, the 94th Airborne was decimated on Red Friday by the massive Federal assault. Forward deployed with the Third Corps when the Terran hammer fell, the division suffered over 80 percent casualties, with many of its regiments completely destroyed. Although the survivors were broken up and sent to reinforce other units, in an act of national defiance, the Republic refused to strike the Wind Warriors from the rolls and later completely rebuilt the division.

Notable Members

Staff Sergeant Anoush Yossarian

Although much has been written about her later civilian government service, Staff Sergeant Anoush Yossarian first came to the attention of the public during the Wind Warriors' time on New Ulsan. As part of the interstellar peacekeeping force, the division was sent to repel an invasion from a nearby warlord.

Before the Akashan 4th MCT set up the planetary beachhead at Gyeong, the 94th Airborne was inserted deep into occupied territory to neutralize the enemy's ability to mount a successful counterattack. As part of Operation Dark Dagger, elements of Kershaw's Brigade were ordered to retake Kyungsang Interstellar Spaceport. However, miscommunication and fierce aerospace resistance led to most of the assault force being scattered across the surrounding countryside.

One of the few units that hit their correct drop point was Dog Company of the 2nd Zoroaster. Unfortunately, all of the company's officers and senior NCOs were killed or incapacitated during the drop, leaving Sergeant Yossarian as the next able-bodied person in the chain of command.

Without hesitation, Yossarian took charge of their mission. During the ensuing firefight, the sergeant was shot three times but managed to lead the company to take out seven machinegun pillboxes, two artillery batteries, and the enemy CP. Yossarian's bravery and quick-thinking helped to turn the battle around and was a pivotal part of the allied victory, and she was named a Tiger of Akasha.
