Combat History

The Terran Fifth Corps is widely considered as the most accomplished, honored, and senior corps of the Federal Army. One of the Fed Army's original elements, the Fifth was raised when the Terran Commission authorized the creation of a new five corps regular army. Nicknamed Terra's Hammer, with the American 82^nd and 101^st Airborne divisions as two of its original elements, this corps was the Blue Planet's chief rapid deployment and deep strike unit for much of the Commission's history.

Though its composition has changed since those days, the Fifth Corps has remained a crucial mainstay of the Federal Forces, performing above expectations time and again through much of the hardest fighting over the last century and a half. However, it hasn't been all roses. Disgraced after the debacle of the Akashan War of Independence, the Hammer rusted away on backwater worlds for years before regaining its honor at the Battle of Seraphim. Ending up at the battle by chance, the Fifth smashed the enemy force despite being badly outnumbered, ending the War of the Three Powers.
 

Notable Members

General of the Army Douglas Feldman

One of the greatest military minds and innovators of all time, much of Douglas Feldman's history is intertwined with the Hammer's. Taking command from the legendary Cornelius P. Collins, General Feldman's own fame soon eclipsed his mentor's, leading the Fifth to victory time and again throughout the Yalic Wars, the sole exception being when the Akashan Star Cluster rebelled against the Blue Planet.

Despite his cold and reserved demeanor, the men and women of the Fifth loved their CO, and he loved them back, after his own fashion. The Fifth Corps followed Feldman faithfully to the bitter end, winning more battles and commendations and capturing more colors under his leadership than any other corps commander before or since.
