Description:

With a name that strikes fear or contempt in the hearts of many throughout Wild Space, the Greenfield Detective Agency is the largest private security and investigation company in the galaxy. Founded by Isaac Greenfield, a former US Army captain and deputy US Marshall, Greenfield is now the Known Sphere's largest and most successful private police force. For obvious reasons, they are a secretive organization and details of their operations are typically only discovered after the fact.

The agency's largest division is Preventative Patrol. Greenfield Preventative Patrolmen are uniformed security personnel to companies, organizations, and individuals who can afford them, typically providing round the clock protection of the premises or escorting valuable goods and/or individuals. Greenfield's next largest division is Investigation. Greenfield investigators scour the galaxy looking for potential and actual threats to their clients, specializing in stopping would-be robbers, as well as hunting down robbers and retrieving stolen property.

The least known and understood division of Greenfield is Situation Management, supplying personnel with specialized skills, which often include combat and covert operations experience. Dubbing themselves "situation specialists," these troubleshooters work for corporations, organizations, and governments that lack in-house capability, or who wish to employ the agency for deniability reasons.

Despite billions of M-Creds spent annually to promote a corporate image of "heroes of law and order," and aggressive methods to attempt to silence critics, they have also gathered an unsavory reputation for being enforcers for the rich and powerful. For example, in one of their most celebrated cases, the testimony of a Greenfield agent used to break a labor strike at McParlan City on Mars and to send ten men to the gallows is now largely dismissed by historians as fabricated. The eagerness of large companies and megacorporations to hire the Agency merely adds to this.

The sheer size of the Agency, larger than most planetary militias, and its willingness to use paramilitary tactics on behalf of clients has led it to be banned from a number of jurisdictions on the grounds of being a private army.
